AMBARISHA PERFORMS ‘DWADASIVRATAM’ AND SAINT DURVASA VISITS HIM

King Ambarisha, son of Nabhaga was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and had performed several ‘Aswamedha’ yagnas successfully. Once he performed ‘Dwadasi Vratam’ for one full year. On the last day of the ‘Vratam’ he had given liberal donations to several Brahmins and fed them sumptuously. Then, when he was about to take his food to end his fasting before the auspicious hours of ‘Dwadasi’ passed away, there came saint Durvasa along with his pupils. King Ambarisha welcomed him respectfully and requested him to accept his hospitality. The saint agreed and proceeded to the river to take his bath. Several hours passed away but the saint and his pupils did not return. Ambarisha was worried as the auspicious hours of  Dwadasi were passing away and he had to end his fasting in time for completion of the Vratam.
