SRI KRISHNA KILLS THE DEMON PUTHANA

 

On learning that a child was born to Devaki, Kamsa came and tried to kill the child. When he threw the child onto the floor, the child flew into the air and announced that the real child of Devaki was growing up elsewhere and that Kamsa’s death was imminent in his hands. Worried Kamsa ordered his fellow demons to search for the son of Devaki where ever he was and finish him. A lady demon, Puthana, thus went in search of the new born babies and finished every one she came across. She came to Vrepalle and there she heard the cries of a child from Nanda’s house. She disguised herself to look like a beautiful lady and entered the house. There she found the child, Krishna, whom she took into her hands and tried to poison him through breast feeding. When Krishna took two or three mouthfuls of milk from her breasts all her energy was sapped and she fell dead vomiting blood and showing off her real self. While Yashoda and all the women there were frightened, Krishna the child was found playing merrily over the dead body of Puthana.
