BRAHMA ADVISES A RELUCTANAT PRIYAVRATHA TO TAKE UP

THE ROYAL DUTIES

Priyavratha, the son of Swayambhuva Manu was initially very reluctant to become the king as his mind was full of devotion to Lord Vishnu and he had no worldly desires. Brahma came to him from his satyaloka on his Hamsavahana (swan) along with Indra and others. Narada was already there. Priyavratha and Manu received them and paid their respects. Brahma then told Priyavratha “everything in this universe happens as per Lord Vishnu’s wish only. Everybody including you and me do everything as per his wish. It is the Lord’s wish that you should rule your kingdom righteously and then obtain salvation. As long as you are detached in your thoughts and devoted to the Lord, performance of your legitimate duties is not obstruction to obtain salvation”.

Priyavratha bowed down in great respect and accepted the advice of Brahma.
